Set on the north-east coast of England, Sunderland is a city by the sea with plenty to keep its visitors amused. Firstly there’s the wild coastline and its beaches. The museums are the perfect place to learn about the area’s strong history in shipbuilding, and its role as a vital port from which to export coal, salt and glass. There’s also the Famous Empire Theatre, the place to be for catching a show, including anything from ballet to Billy Connolly.
